What are Compression Socks?

Compression socks are specially manufactured garments designed to support veinous return in the legs. They work by gently squeezing the outside of the leg. This compressive action helps veins just below the skin to return stale blood back to the heart. In turn this compressive action can help prevent varicose veins, reduce swelling (edema), and possibly prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

Compression Socks have been around for hundreds of years. Roman soldiers were said to have worn bandages on their legs during long marches. Later, these simple compression garments made way to more advanced fabric technology. Today, advanced fabrics and modern sewing techniques allow compression socks to be made relatively inexpensively. This way they are available to everyone without requiring a prescription or expensive hospital bill.
